The Cantini Mosaics reinstallation project is underway at the Steel Plaza T Station in downtown Pittsburgh. The pedestrian tunnel remains open as the walls are modified for the mounting of two ±50' long series of mosaic panels created by Virgil Cantini in 1964. The mosaics will be surrounded by irregular marble tiles and illuminated with new overhead accent lighting. A series of information panels will tell the story of the artist and this project, and its relationship with the Lower Hill District. Construction is ongoing, with anticipated completion in early 2024.
