Cambria Rowe Rehabilitation

Redeveloping the former Cambria Rowe Business College into a medical office building

Programming & Feasibility, Architecture, Adaptive Reuse

2023-2024

The former Cambria Rowe Business College is being rehabilitated by the Johnstown Redevelopment Authority (JRA) to house a medical office building to serve the residents of Johnstown and the surrounding area. Landmarks SGA and CJL Engineering were engaged to design a facility for non-emergency, non-procedural medical care, for both walk-in urgent care and appointments with either primary care physicians or specialists. The existing building is a two-story structure, with a full basement, that contains approximately 19,200 square feet of usable space.

The design process included stakeholder meetings to discuss programming needs, as well equipment requirements for the specialized uses in the facility. The new interior layout was designed with a focus on improved accessibility and general upgrades, including ADA restrooms, an elevator, and new finishes. The project received both state and federal grant funding through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) and the Economic Development Administration (EDA). All work was done in compliance with the funding sources, while being sensitive to cost efficiency and delivering the highest value product to the client and community.
